A lot of my female friends have this opinion that lifting weights for women is a big no-no. They believe that if they’ll start lifting weights they’ll get big and masculine which is probably the main reason why so many of them avoid free weights.

The reality is that strength training is probably the most effective way for you to get in shape.

You’re probably asking why?

Well first of all weight lifting isn’t boring when compared to the traditional cardio exercises which most of the women do. I am not saying that cardio is not effective, but the reality is that it is so boring to do the same exercise each and every day.

Weight lifting is different: you’re constantly doing something new, you’re constantly trying to push your body even further and it’s more fun to train like that.

Another great reason why you should start weight training or at least circuit training is that while focusing on this type of training you’ll be shaping up your muscles and burning body fat at the same time, whereas with the traditional cardio this is impossible to achieve.

A lot of women want to get rid of jiggly arms or shape up their thighs and with weight training you can easily do some exercises like standing biceps curls or barbell lunges to shape up those muscles.

Another great reason why weight training is an effective way for you to get in shape is that the demands for energy during weight training workouts are much higher when compared to the traditional aerobic exercises.

The greater the demands for energy the sooner your body will start to look for more sources of energy like fats. This means that you’ll start using and eventually burning body fat much quicker if you’ll focus on weight training.
